What is Knee Pain?
There are many knee injuries, which can cause great pain and disability including injuries to the tendons, ligaments, the bones and the bursae and joint capsule. The various injuries of ligaments and tendons are named according to the inured tendon or ligament’s name. The ACL, or the anterior cruciate ligament, is often injured in the course of playing sports. To avoid injuries to the knee, be sure to warm up and stretch before any exercise. It is far easier to injure a cold tendon or ligament. If you knee is injured, do not put weight upon it. You need to lie down and rest, ice the injury to prevent swelling and elevate the limb as well. If there are any signs of bleeding, swelling or if the joint is frozen, seek medical treatment immediately.
A Healthy KneeLigaments connect the bones and help brace the joint by limiting forward and sideways motion and rotation. Muscles, connected to the bones by tendons, provide strength for movement.
